As temperatures begin to cool, it is common to spot critters creeping into warm environments, particularly homes and commercial kitchens. These spaces provide access to renewable food sources, plenty of places to build their nests and a warm place to call home. This is great for them but creates real problems for home and property owners.
In the wide world of insects, ants do not seem like the most menacing pests out there, but these creepy crawlers create a mess, property damage and unsanitary conditions. From carting bacteria around with them, to chewing through wooden materials, even something as small as an ant can have a huge impact on structures.
The Impact of Infestations
The two most common types of ants roaming Canadian cities are pavement ants and carpenter ants. Both of these pests have their own unique brand of property damage. Pavement ants, for example, are a major concern outdoors while carpenter ants wreak havoc indoors.
Outside: Pavement ants are quick to build their homes near constructions outside. Nests are often found between concrete slabs around sidewalks. These insects might be small but they operate in large numbers. As each critter dislodges a small amount of dirt, these numbers add up. With each piece of dirt that is dislodged, the structural integrity of outdoor areas is compromised, helping to make way for sunken areas, erosion and even upended paving stones.
Indoors: Carpenter ants might begin their journey outdoors but it does not take long for these pests to creep inside. Colonies often begin outdoors in heavily wooded areas, often in dead or rotting stumps or in wood piles but once inside, they are capable of spreading their numbers in unseen places. Whether under flooring or behind walls, there is nowhere that these ants can’t squeeze. In order to create pathways for themselves, ants chew through sound wood, leaving beams and construction materials looking more like Swiss cheese than sound materials.
The Toodaloo Technique
In order to keep up with ants, Toodaloo technicians are committed to working smarter and not harder. Instead of punching holes into walls, searching for ant colonies, our specialists use top of the line tools and techniques to spot high traffic areas, treating them directly and saving time and money in the process.
