A Proud Canadian Company
Cockroaches hide by day and come out at night, so by the time you see one there are usually many more behind the fridge or under the sink. Toodaloo Pest Control treats cockroaches in London apartments, houses, restaurants and commercial kitchens. Our technicians find where they breed, treat those spots with professional baits and growth regulators, and return to confirm they are gone. Call 519-914-0478 or book online.
According to Health Canada, cockroaches rarely damage buildings but can contaminate food and spread disease, and their droppings and body parts can trigger reactions in people with asthma. That matters in homes with young children and in any food business.
Health Canada notes that once cockroaches are inside a building they travel quite easily, drawn to kitchens, bathrooms, basements and plumbing. In multi-unit buildings that means treating one unit rarely ends the problem; the units around it, and shared garbage rooms, need to be checked as well.
In London, the City’s Property Standards By-law (CP-24, section 4.10.1) requires all buildings to be kept free of insects and other pests, and new Residential Rental Unit Licence applications for buildings with four or fewer units include a property standards inspection.
Store-bought sprays kill the roaches they touch but rarely reach eggs and the insects hiding in wall voids and appliance motors, and repellent sprays can push them into neighbouring rooms or units. Health Canada recommends sticky or jar traps to see where cockroaches are most active so treatment can be concentrated there, and stresses that any product used must carry a Pest Control Products (PCP) number and be used exactly as its label says.
Cockroaches and their egg cases travel in cardboard boxes, grocery bags and used appliances such as microwaves, toasters and fridges. When you move into a London apartment, open boxes outside the kitchen and check second-hand appliances closely before plugging them in.
Health Canada’s advice is to pair treatment with intensive cleaning, because pesticides alone will not succeed unless the conditions that feed cockroaches change:
In a commercial kitchen, cockroaches find warmth around dishwashers, coolers and cooking lines, and food and water everywhere. Treatment is scheduled around service, focuses on equipment voids, drains and storage areas, and comes with a sanitation list for staff, since Health Canada’s point about pairing treatment with cleaning matters even more in a kitchen.
Before we arrive, clear the cupboards under sinks and the areas we will treat, store open food in sealed containers and keep pets away from treated spots until your technician says otherwise. Health Canada also says landlords must tell tenants when they can safely return to a treated unit and what follow-up steps to take.
Landlords must take steps to control pests such as cockroaches, according to Ontario’s Landlord and Tenant Board. Report them in writing; if they are not dealt with, London tenants can file a property standards Request for Service with the City (519-661-2489 or [email protected]).
As a licensed pest control company, Toodaloo carries $5 million in liability insurance and stands behind every visit with a satisfaction guarantee.
It depends on the size of the property, how widespread the infestation is and whether neighbouring units need treatment. Call 519-914-0478 or request a quote.
Usually from elsewhere in the building, along plumbing and gaps around pipes, or in grocery boxes, bags and second-hand appliances.
Sprays can scatter them deeper into walls. Health Canada says treatment has to be paired with cleaning and sealing, and established infestations usually need professional baits.
Usually not. Your technician will tell you if any area needs to stay clear and for how long.
Health Canada says they can contaminate food and spread disease, and their droppings and body parts can affect people with asthma.
Sticky traps placed where you saw cockroaches, as Health Canada suggests, should catch fewer each week. Tell us if they do not.
Cleaning removes what feeds them, but an established population usually needs treatment as well. Health Canada recommends doing both together.
In warm, dark gaps close to food and water: behind and under fridges and stoves, inside cabinet hinges and voids, under sinks and around pipes, and inside appliance motors.
Not on their own. Health Canada notes they travel easily inside a building, so a clean unit can get them from elsewhere; cleaning and sealing do make treatment work much better.
They can return from neighbouring units or in new deliveries. Keeping food sealed, fixing leaks and sealing gaps around pipes, as Health Canada advises, makes that much less likely.
Yes. We work with restaurants and food businesses and can schedule around service hours.
