A Proud Canadian Company
Rats leave burrows along foundations, gnaw through siding and wiring, and contaminate food. Toodaloo Pest Control removes rats from homes, rental buildings, restaurants and warehouses in London, Ontario. We map where they enter and feed, set professional traps and exterior bait stations, seal the openings and check back until they are gone. Call 519-914-0478 (answered 24 hours a day); same-day service is available.
Monthly rodent control programs for London homes and businesses start as low as $39.99 per month.
Rats are much larger than mice and their droppings are bigger, and Health Canada notes a rat can get in through a quarter-sized hole, where a mouse needs a gap about the size of a dime. Rats also burrow: Health Canada lists burrows or holes in and around foundation walls as a sign of infestation, along with droppings, urine and scratching sounds at night.
Health Canada says mice and rats are carriers of disease and can damage property. Rats gnaw through wood, plastic and wiring insulation, contaminate stored food and leave droppings and urine along their routes. When cleaning up, Health Canada advises rubber gloves and a dust mask, dampening droppings and debris with a bleach and water solution before wiping, and never sweeping or vacuuming them dry, because the dust raised can cause illness.
Health Canada’s trap guidance applies to rats as well as mice: set traps along walls and runways, at right angles to the wall, leave them baited but unset for three to four days so rats lose their caution, then set them and check every day. Outdoors, any bait has to be inside a tamper-proof station if children or pets can reach it. If burrows keep reopening, the food source and the way in have not been dealt with.
Health Canada is clear that baits or poisons should not be used as the only method; proofing and sanitation have to go with them, which is why we treat the property, not just the rats.
A few steps from Health Canada’s guidance make treatment faster: store dry food and dry pet food in metal or glass containers, keep garbage in bins with tight-fitting lids, clear clutter in the basement, garage and shed where rats can nest, and fix leaking taps. Do not block a burrow you have just found; it helps us see whether rats are still using it.
In food businesses, rats are a health and inspection issue as much as a nuisance. We work around service hours, focus on loading areas, garbage enclosures and the building envelope, and give staff the sanitation steps that keep rats from returning.
Rats in or around a rental are the landlord’s responsibility to address under the Landlord and Tenant Board’s guidance on pests, and the City of London’s CP-24 by-law requires buildings to be kept free of rodents. Report burrows or droppings to your landlord in writing; the City’s Request for Service line is 519-661-2489 if nothing happens.
Toodaloo carries $5 million in liability insurance as a licensed pest control company, and our satisfaction guarantee applies to every visit.
It depends on how many entry points and burrows there are, the size of the property and how many visits are needed. Call 519-914-0478 or request a quote.
Through gaps around pipes, vents, doors and foundations. Health Canada notes a rat can fit through a quarter-sized hole, so every opening that size matters.
Health Canada says poison should not be the only method and must be in tamper-proof stations where children or pets can reach. Without proofing and clean-up, rats keep coming back.
Wear rubber gloves and a dust mask, dampen droppings with a bleach and water solution, and never sweep or vacuum them dry, as Health Canada advises.
Neighbouring compost, bird feeders, garbage or sheds can draw them, and they travel. The City of London’s by-law on nuisance feeding covers seed that attracts rodents to a property.
Holes about the width of a fist or smaller along foundations, under decks and sheds or beside garbage enclosures, often with smooth, packed earth at the entrance. Health Canada lists burrows near foundation walls as a sign of rats.
Rats are cautious of new objects. Health Canada suggests leaving traps baited but unset for three to four days before setting them, and placing them along walls and runways.
They gnaw wood, plastic, insulation and wiring to get in and to reach food, which is why proofing uses materials they cannot chew through.
