The common city-going rat may not be a shocking sight to many. However, that could change when you discover them on your own property. All of a sudden, the horror stories begin to make a whole new kind of sense. For help with rats, look into Toodaloo’s Portage La Prairie rat control and removal service. We will erase the newfound hairy horrors from your life in no time.
The two most common types of rat in Canada are the Roof Rat and the Norway Rat. The Roof Rat tends to range between black and light brown in colour, and an adult can be up to 12”–18”in length, including a 6”–10” tail. They can produce up to thirty-two babies in a year, and have an average life span of one or two years. They got the name ‘Roof Rat’ because they tend to make their homes in ceilings or attics and crawl spaces. The Norway Rat, on the other hand, will be about 8” to 10” in length, and their tails will be the same size again. They have sensitive ears, shorter snouts, and have an all around larger appearance. Although they are mainly known as street rats or sewer rats, they can also be found in garden beds, foundations of buildings, and inside walls.
Rats will eat just about anything, and they are also capable of chewing through just about everything. And when ‘everything’ encompasses the wiring in your building, rats can easily put you at risk of electrical fires and other safety hazards.
If there is any reason for rats to like the look of your property, it is going to be either food or shelter. You really don’t want them in your home, though. Rats are infamous sources of disease and infection, and as wild animals, they also tend to bite and scratch when cornered. That’s why it is better for rat removal to be done by professionals.
